I have written this series based on my observations of fan behavior when the Colorado Rockies played a home game in Denver. What is the reason behind many people rooting for the opposing team and not the Rockies?
What is wrong with this picture? Why does the crowd in the home city of Denver sound louder and more enthusiastic for the opposing team?
Are the people in your organization more enthusiastic about another department, company, corporation, etc.? Excitement, passion, and enthusiasm are not manufactured they are created. Those qualities are generated and grown from trust, credibility, and consistent leadership. John Maxwell says, “Consistency compounds.”
If any or all of these are absent, then rebuild the home field advantage and do the following:
- Clarify the mission and vision.
- Strengthen relationships and build trust.
- Celebrate wins and develop pride in the organization.
- Create an environment where people want to be part of the team.
Leaders must ask, “Have we created a place where people are proud to wear the jersey, or are they looking for someone else to cheer for?”
